Allow us to flex a little on this topic: one of the top reasons why our students pick FaMA - Fitness and Martial Arts as their academy to learn martial arts and get fit, is that our facility is clean and well-maintained. We are blessed and fortunate to have a great team of staff that ensure this. More than that, we are proud to have a legacy of students who take care of the space like it is their own home!
At this point, it is a good opportunity to refresh some of FaMA's hygiene rules that, when heeded, will continue to make the gym a great and conducive one for everyone!
Cover All Open Wounds Before Training
We wouldn’t want you to infect others, or worse, receive an infection.
Also, as much as FaMA is filled with tough martial artists, not everyone has a strong stomach for blood. :(
Cleanliness and Personal Grooming
Keep clean and fresh when you come to train. Showers, deodorant, and fresh breath are appreciated before you come into close contact sports - particularly in martial arts! No one likes to tap out to his/her partner’s bad breath or body odour.
Also, please step onto the mats with clean gear and uniform. If you are facing challenges with getting laundry done on time, we provide laundry service at a nominal fee.
Refrain from Eating or Drinking on the Mats
Keep the roaches, flies, and other creepy crawlies at bay by not bringing food and drinks to non-designated areas such as the training areas and showers. Need to grab a bite or sip on an energy drink? You may do so in the recreational waiting area.
Footwear and Clean Feet
As you enter the gym, ensure that you remove your shoes and place them in the cabinets provided.
Most parts of the gym are ‘shoe-free’, and only designated slippers are allowed within these zones.
One of the zones includes the toilets. Slippers must be worn into the toilets at all times, to prevent yucky germs from being transmitted onto training areas. It’s not a pleasant thought to see someone step out of the toilet barefoot and right onto the mats - where your face and body come into direct contact with. Ew.
Get Changed within Locker Rooms
For the free spirits and body-confident folk, we know you’ve worked very hard to achieve that beautiful physique of yours. However, not everyone wants to see it. Please head to the locker rooms to get changed in and out of your training gear. Flexing and thirst traps should happen in your own private time, not at the gym.
Return Used Towels!
Please put all your used towels in lockers or laundry baskets provided outside of the locker rooms. Treat the academy as you would your home. Even if your mum or wife picks up after you at home, auntie is none of those. Please, help auntie out.
Unwell? Seek Medical Attention
Training is addictive, we know, and we’d hate to miss class as much as anyone else. But if you’re sick or suspect yourself of communicable diseases (cold, flu, staph, ringworm, etc.), please seek medical attention.
In the meantime, avoid attending training until you are sure to be well! After all, our martial arts curriculum ensures self-defence against humans, but not so much zombies (yet).
